The Future of Breaking

Each One Teach One

The Battle of the Year Next Generation is rooted in the core hip-hop philosophy of "Each One Teach One." This principle describes the passing on of knowledge and experience from one generation to the next — where experienced artists share their skills, values, and understanding of the culture directly with younger dancers.

BOTY Next Generation is aimed at dancers under the age of 18 and follows the structure and rules of the original Battle of the Year. At the same time, the format is specifically adapted to meet the needs and developmental stages of young artists.

Values & Standards

Next Generation is far more than just a competition. At its core are the values that have defined BOTY for over 30 years: mutual respect, a strong sense of community, creativity, discipline, and the drive to push beyond one's own limits.

These high standards are reflected not only in its content but also in its organization. An internationally experienced jury, professional event conditions, high-quality media production, and a well-structured program allow young participants to gain their first experiences at a top international level — contributing to both their artistic and personal development.

A Living Youth Culture

As a youth culture, hip-hop plays a central role in BOTY Next Generation. Breaking has always been closely connected to young people. In Germany, youth centers often serve as the breeding grounds of this culture. The scene thrives on the constant influx of new dancers who bring their own influences and continuously push the evolution of breaking.

BOTY Next Generation becomes a space for expression, learning, and exchange. It gives young B-Boys and B-Girls the opportunity to compete, connect with dancers from diverse backgrounds, and develop a deeper understanding of the culture — while strengthening their own identity.

Always Reinventing

By placing youth at its center, the event highlights one of the fundamental ideas of breaking: culture is not only passed on — it is reinvented with every generation.
